However, during my freshman year, I realized that while I excelled at the theoretical and analytical aspects, I was drawn to something more people oriented. I wanted to pursue a career that combined analysis with leadership, teamwork, and client engagement. I switched my major to Business Management and began exploring opportunities in the business world. Through Macaulay Honors College, I landed my first finance internship at UBS in Private Wealth Management during the fall of my sophomore year. I was able to learn how various investment strategies can help high-net-worth clients meet their financial goals and objectives. This experience introduced me to the world of finance and confirmed my interest in pursuing it further, so I decided to switch my major a second time. The following semester, eager to dive deeper into wealth management, I was introduced to the Envestnet On Campus Certificate Program by Andrew Colbeck, our ConEd Trading Room Technician. This program gave me more than just a credential for my resume. It provided valuable knowledge, practical insights, and lasting connections. Covering topics like client interviewing, managed investment solutions, and the financial planning lifecycle, the program laid a strong foundation for careers in wealth and asset management. Inspired by this experience, I introduced the program to the Finance and Economics Club, which I founded in my junior year. Our members found it incredibly valuable, and it sparked a broader interest in financial advising and wealth planning amongst our members. This enthusiasm led to the creation of a "Careers in Wealth Management" panel event. Katy Yocom, Envestnet's Program Director, supported the idea and assembled a panel of industry professionals to speak to our club. The event helped demystify careers in wealth and asset management, inspiring several members to consider these paths. Katy has also been a generous mentor to me, providing job opportunities, interview advice, and continuous support throughout my full- time job search. I am incredibly grateful for her guidance and proud to share that I have secured a role at Barclays in Credit Structuring, covering Latin America. As a Guatemalan American, it means so much to support clients in a region close to my heart. The Envestnet On Campus Program offered me more than just industry knowledge. It gave me a network, mentorship, and the chance to positively impact my college community by helping others explore financial advisement. I highly recommend this program to any student, regardless of their intended career path. It has truly been a cornerstone of my professional journey!
