US GDP Growth
US GDP growth for Q2 was 3.8%—
well above the consensus.
This was an unusual report as
massive inventory drawdowns pulled
GDP down while an even more
dramatic decline in imports pushed
economic growth higher. Essentially,
Q2 was the antithesis of Q1.
2.5% consumer spending growth
was a bit disappointing, however,
but 4.4% fixed investment growth
was good news. The US economy is
reasonably healthy and isn't heading
into an imminent recession.
